A terrific writeup of my favourite Aronofsky movie. Rourke was robbed of his Oscar - I truly believe his WrestleMania involvement that year damaged his chances in the eyes of a still-snobby Academy. Shame on them.

His performance was superb. A literal painstaking dedication to the craft. Having said that his, and the film's finest moments often take place away from the ring. The beach walk and chat with Evan Rachel Wood is gut-wrenching - impeccible in every aspect.

A beautiful and devastating film with so much to say beyond the mat.
